What is DOOM III?

DOOM III is the next game in a series that started off in December 1993, created by id Software these games were a huge technological mile stone for their time.  id Software is returning back to DOOM after doing the Quake series, and unlike the previous Quake games intend to scare you.

Who is developing DOOM III?

id Software, creators of Wolfenstein 3D, DOOM, DOOM II, Quake, Quake II and Quake III Arena.  You can find their website here http://www.idsoftware.com/.

Who is publishing DOOM III?

Activision, who also published id Software's Quake II and Quake III Arena games, their website can be found here http://www.activision.com/.

What platforms will DOOM III be on, Windows, Linux, Xbox etc?

Windows, with a Linux and Mac version very likely judging on id's previous track record, with an Xbox version sure to follow.

When are we going to get to play?

March 2004 is probably the best bet at the moment for Windows, Mac and Linux could follow a few months later, with an Xbox version probably sometime towards the end of the year.

What is single player like?

id Software are aiming for an intense and terrifying single player experience, quite a lot different to their other games which have mainly just been about blowing things up.  This time they intend to scare you.  The pace of the action has been slowed quite a lot.  But the main point of the game is to bring fear into you.  This is defiantly one of those games that you play in the middle of the night with the lights off.

What is multiplayer like?

Multiplayer wise DOOM III will be a lot different to it's Quake cousins, id Software have concentrated very much on single player and making sure that can be as good as it can.  It will still have a multiplayer, but don't expect it to be anything like the Quake games.  It looks like you won't be able to hop into a game anytime you want, looks like you're going to have to all get together at the start of a game, and then the players will be fixed from then on, this appears to be down to the engine itself, and therefore at this time looks to be true with Quake IV aswell.

What game modes are there?

At the moment it looks like there is only going to be a fairly simple deathmatch included with DOOM III.  Although id Software have said about doing a multiplayer expansion pack at a later date.
